Well, I tried to embed a You Tube video into a different website that I had created using the HTML code that You Tube gave me, but had no luck playing the video at work. I assume it did not work since the code it gave me to embed it really just linked back to You Tube and Howard County blocked it. Oh well, I guess I will just have to settle for other video streaming sites such as United Streaming. Maybe someday in the future, Howard County will open up You Tube for teachers to use.
There is a way to get around the block on YouTube! I have gone to a site at http://www.savevid.com/. There you paste in the youtube link and it converts the video to a flv file. Then you have to download the flv player; there are many out there but this one is put out by apple, http://www.applemacvideo.com/free-mac-flv-player.html. I have also used http://software-files-l.cnet.com/s/software/10/98/52/79/FLVPlayerSetup.exe?e=1292740367&h=3a68310b1a27911b424644c4605dc89d&lop=link&ptype=1901&ontid=2139&siteId=4&edId=3&spi=40c2f5dedf43500d4323b19913c80bab&pid=10985279&psid=10467081&fileName=FLVPlayerSetup.exe on my PC at home. Of course you have to do all this at home and it takes a few minutes to play with it and get it to work the first time, but then it is easy! I have done it to get science videos that are short but fun. Try it! Janet
